Off Balance! --- Getting Beyond the Work-Life Balance Myth
One of the major issues plaguing the corporate world today is work-life balance. Everyone wants it; nobody has it! But do people really want it? If you had to choose between balance and satisfaction, which would you choose? People want to live deeply satisfying personal lives and satisfying professional lives – and they want to know that both are possible at the same time.
The work-life balance conversation that has dominated the corporate landscape for two decades implies that work and life are separate. In this way, we set work and life against each other, and the thought that follows is that you are either working too much and living too little, or vice versa. But work can and should be a richly rewarding part of a person’s life.
In this presentation, Matthew will change the way the audience thinks about the work-life balance question and give them the tools they need to get beyond the balance myth and start building a life that is deeply satisfying – personally and professionally. Leading Through Change --- Understanding How to Manage a Transition
It is often said that people hate change, but it is not true. People love change; they just don’t like transition. But our businesses and our lives are constantly in transition. Learning how to manage transitions might be the most practical skill in the corporate world over the next 20 years.
When was the last time you were not experiencing some type of transition at work? It could be a new product, a new client, a new boss, new team members, new IT, new processes and systems, new pricing structures, or new office space. Our businesses are always in transition. Who on your team is not experiencing transition in their personal life right now? Personal transition examples could be a new job, a new boyfriend or girlfriend, moving to a new city, buying a new house, marriage, divorce, having a baby, sending a child to college, health issues, the death or illness of a loved one, or getting a new pet. WE ARE CONSTANTLY IN TRANSITION. Business is transition. Life is transition. Getting really good at handling transition is one of the basic skills necessary to thrive in the modern world.
In this presentation, Matthew will teach the audience how to lead people and manage processes during a transition. Using The Transition Diagram he will demonstrate the different stages of a transition, which members of a team will get on board, which will resist, and who will try to sabotage the transition… and why. Participants will leave with a practical model that will forever change the way they lead people through transitions to the positive changes they have envisioned for their team or company.
The Dream Manager --- Building a Bigger Future for Your Company & Your People
Once every twenty-five years or so a concept comes along that perfectly identifies a common problem and teaches us a new way. The Dream Manager is that concept. The simple truth is this: the destiny of your organization and the destiny of the people who drive your organization are inseparably linked.
The great majority of the people in the workplace today are actively disengaged at some level. To varying extents they don’t feel connected to the work they do, the organizations they work in, or the people that they work with. No single factor is affecting morale, efficiency, productivity, sustainable growth and profitability more than this disengagement.
The Dream Manager concept provides a revolutionary way of reversing this crippling trend and demonstrates how organizations, large and small, can actively engage their people once again, thus creating a competitive advantage of monumental proportions.
In this presentation, Matthew explains the powerful connection between employees’ personal dreams and a corporation’s ability to achieve goals and sustain growth. Exploring the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy organizations, he demonstrates that a company cannot expect to attract and retain the employees necessary to guarantee sustainable growth and profitability unless that company can help those same employees move in the direction of their personal dreams and ambitions. Using an array of practical examples, he illustrates the broad application of The Dream Manager concept and demonstrates how, in different areas of our lives, we all take on the role of the Dream Manager.
Meaningful Messaging --- Marketing Beyond the Noise
How many FREE CHECKING billboards have you seen in your life? Is that what most people are looking for from a bank? What would happen to the bank that changed the conversation with a message like: WHAT’S YOUR DREAM? We Can Help! XYZ Bank? This bank would get beyond the noise of a highly-commoditized industry where essentially every bank does the same thing anyway.
How many marketing messages does the average consumer encounter on any single day? How is your message going to capture their attention? How are you going to cut through the noise?
In this presentation Matthew will demonstrate the power of meaningful messaging and teach his audience how to create meaningful campaigns that get beyond the noise and have people talking about products and services in a whole new way.
Talent Fanatic --- Building a World-Class Team in a Mediocre Culture
Business is still about people. Even considering all of the technological advancements we have witnessed in the past 50 years and how all of these advancements have changed business, you still find people on both sides of every transaction…. and most of management's headaches still involve people. Developing a world-class team is still the ultimate competitive advantage in business.
It is going to be more and more difficult to develop a world-class team because talented people are going to be harder and harder to find as the baby-boomers leave the workplace and the quality of education continues to diminish. But still, the future of your business depends on finding, attracting, nurturing, and retaining a world-class team.
In this presentation Matthew will encourage participants to become talent fanatics. What is a talent fanatic? A person obsessed with searching for the talent necessary to achieve the bigger future you have envisioned for your company. He will also teach the audience how to spot talent, develop talent, and when and why to discard talent.
Authenticity not Authority --- The New Leadership Paradigm
In an age that is allergic to authority, it is time to celebrate authenticity and harness it as an integral part of leadership. Authentic leadership is integrity-based leadership and does not consist of perfection, but rather the honest admission of strengths and weaknesses and the need for teams to complement those strengths and weaknesses.
This new paradigm for leadership is based upon the idea that a company cannot become the-best-version-of-itself unless its management and employees are striving to become better-versions-of-themselves. This new paradigm demands that an organization take a more active interest in the lives of its employees. If employees do not believe that their leader has their best interests at heart, it is impossible to expect that employee to have the organization’s best interests at heart.
In this presentation, New York Times bestselling author, Matthew Kelly, will demonstrate how a variety of leadership styles help or hinder the overall objectives of a team or company. Participants will also learn how to lead with authenticity.
Totally Engaged! --- Why Employee Engagement Matters
What is the difference between a highly engaged and a massively disengaged employee? Can you tell the difference before you hire someone? How? Can you increase the engagement of long time employees? How?
In this presentation Matthew answers all of these questions and demonstrates the real cost of disengagement by exploring both the hard and soft costs. Sure, if an employee is disengaged to some extent you are wasting part of the salary you pay that person – but what is the cost when a disengaged employee is interacting with your best clients or working on your most important projects?
Is your workforce 60% engaged? 70%? 80%? At 80% you would have one of the most highly engaged workforces in the world… but you would still be flushing 20% of payroll, 20% of benefit costs and other costs, 20% of your productivity, and 20% of your opportunities down the toilet every month. It’s time to take employee engagement seriously.
Personal Strategic Planning --- What Separates High Level Achievers
Organizations assume their employees will think strategically about the projects they are working on – but in too many cases they don’t! The reason is because most people don’t think strategically about their lives. If we want them to approach their work strategically and take our strategic plans seriously – the first step is to teach them to think strategically about their lives.
In this presentation, Matthew takes his audience on a personal odyssey to begin to develop a strategic plan for their lives. With his unique and original concept of applying traditional strategic planning methods to our personal lives, he demonstrates, once again, that the most powerful way to teach team members about the importance of corporate planning is to teach them the principles of personal strategic planning.
Most people spend more time planning their vacations than they do planning their lives. If we cannot convince them of the importance of planning in their own lives, we will never convince them of how important planning is to the organization.
A Culture of Dreams --- Empowerment Versus Entitlement
After the incredible success of The Dream Manager, companies from all over the world became interested in building cultures that encouraged people to identify and pursue their dreams. The results have been powerful.
During the first half of this presentation Matthew will share case studies of some of the most successful dream cultures, highlighting how it changes employees lives and corporate profits. The second half of this presentation will outline how to create a culture of dreams within your company – and what obstacles and opportunities you can expect along the way.
Business Is Still About People --- Understanding What Makes People Tick Today
Over the past 50 years we have experienced incredible technological advancement, but still, on both sides of every business transaction we still find people. Businesses exist for people; people do not exist for businesses. If we lose sight of that we lose our ability to successfully manage people – and our ability to successfully sell products and services to people.
In this presentation Matthew will discuss the demise of EQ (emotional quotient) in our text-crazy culture and what that means to managing employees, leading a team, and selling to consumers. By exploring the three questions that lie at the core of understanding people and what makes them tick, he will present practical ways to increase your own EQ and the EQ of those around you. Finally, he will demonstrate how higher levels of EQ lead to more dynamic teamwork, greater efficiency, increased customer satisfaction, and expanding profits.

Matthew Kelly - More Than Just a Speech!
When you engage Matthew Kelly to speak at your event, you get much more than just a speech. For starters he does not believe in canned speeches. For this reason, he considers each speaking engagement to have three phases: Discovery and Pre-Work; the Speech; and Follow Through.
Discovery and Pre-Work
Long before Matthew arrives to speak to your group he will spend hours understanding your company and the unique opportunities and challenges you face at this time. He will have calls with key members of your team to learn how his speech fits into the overall success of the event, and he will use this input to sculpt a message that resonates with your audience.
By the time Matthew reaches the podium you can be sure he will be thoroughly prepared to deliver a message that will engage, inspire, and educate.
Most of all, Matthew believes that some of his most important work is done long after the audience has ceased their applause, long after the event is over, when we are all back home.
One of the offerings that sets Matthew apart from other speakers are the resources he offers to clients to use in the weeks and months that follow the event. These resources are easy to use and disseminate, and they provide a practical way to allow the message to live on long after the event. These resources also allow the message from your event to cascade down through the organization to people who were not there.
If you are trying to decide which speaker to have at your next event, we invite you to schedule a call with Matthew to discuss your event. There is no cost or obligation involved in this call, just one more way we like to go above and beyond.

Tracy Wright --- Director, National Contact Center Operations --- Avon Products
“It’s rare to find a speaker who can truly inspire an audience and deliver practical life-changing information. Matthew Kelly is one of those speakers. Without question, he exceeded our expectations and I see the impact he made continuing in our people each day.”
Ed Dwyer --- Division Manager, Community Banking --- US Bank
“Matthew Kelly knows what it takes to inspire an audience and motivate teams. Since his presentation, people have been more energized than ever before. The way that he demonstrates the connection between personal and professional lives is genius and has ignited a real passion in our culture.”
John Eagan --- Vice President, Senior General Merchandise Manager --- Costco
“You exceeded expectations! So many people commented on how your talk was an incredible gift. A great example of the type of comment I heard was the response I received from one man when I asked him if he liked your talk. He hesitated and said, I am not sure 'like' is the right description. He said it 'hit' him and he was 'moved'. I think this call to action is so much more powerful than being entertaining and engaging. The benefit is that your talk was the total package. Thanks again for your time and, more importantly, your impact."
Kim Kraus --- Director, Agency Strategy --- Procter & Gamble
“The most powerful ideas are always the simple ones. And so often they come from unlikely sources. Matthew Kelly’s The Dream Manager is a testament to both of these axioms.”
Patrick Lencioni --- Author of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
“The Dream Manager emphasizes that a key and critical role of leadership is the ability to recognize the dreams of those that we lead and inspire them to achieve those visions…I believe Matthew Kelly's new book will be an important contribution to the literature of leadership."
Robert A. McDonald --- CEO ---Procter & Gamble
"While at SFO before leaving for Sydney, I thumbed briefly through ‘one of those’ parable books—and was, to my utter amazement, captured in a flash. Okay, I’m gonna say it—I think Matthew Kelly's The Dream Manager is magnificent. Furthermore, I think that if you, Mr/Ms Manager-Executive, don’t ‘get it,’ you've got a big-time problem."
Tom Peters --- Coauthor of In Search of Excellence
“Employees no longer show loyalty to their companies…but it is difficult to demonstrate loyalty unless you can feel it coming back to you! Matthew Kelly's The Dream Manager puts realism behind the statement that ‘our people are our most important asset.’ Treating your employees as if they are #1 provides a better chance that they will be treating your customers in a like fashion.”
J. Wickliffe Ach --- President and CEO --- Hixson
"We didn’t want our event just to focus on corporate goals. We wanted to show our sales force that we are interested in them as people. They have never felt more appreciated and, as a result, we are having our best year yet.”
John Kane --- Director, Sales Development --- Cutco Knives
